What is Probate
When a person dies, someone has to deal with their affairs including, their property, possessions, their finances, and their wishes. This process is called administering the estate and often is described as Probate as a general term.
If somebody dies and leaves a Will their Executors will apply for the Grant of Probate.
If somebody dies without a Will then they have died intestate, and their Administrators will apply for Letters of Administration.
Both processes are commonly known as Probate. They are both applied for in a similar way and both are legal documents which are issued by a section of the court known as the Probate Registry.
Before an estate can be legally administered and finalized, Probate is often required.
